Brother becomes an entrepreneur, makes a 60% return on his investment

Internet, I would like you to meet my brother.

Photos of Denzil wearing shuttershades

Some may know him as the boy who uses his sister for target practice. Other may remember him as the boy who doesn’t bathe. But now, you will remember him as the gun-shooting, non-bathing entrepreneurial hustler who has just leveraged $25 to make $40.

Did I mention he’s only 13?

Let me explain how he did this.

Him and one of his friends went 50/50 on a bulk order of shutter shades off of eBay. It was $50 for 12 pairs. Before they even paid for their order, they decided to get pre-orders for the shades, just to make sure they wouldn’t be left with 12 pairs of shades. So they turned to social networking—their school—and within one day, they had 4 pre-orders each.

So they went ahead and purchased the shades. And when they arrived, within one day, they had sold all four shades for more than double the price they had paid for them—a whopping $10/pair.

Lets break this down.

Initial investment:
$25 ($4.16 each for 6 pairs)

Sell investment:
$40 ($10 each, sold 4 pairs)

Profit:
(What they made – what they paid = profit)
$40 – $25 = $15

Rate of return:
(profit / initial investment = rate of return)
$15 (100%) / $25 = 60%

Not only that, but his customers are happy, because those same shutter shades at Bang On are a whopping 20 dollars—a whole 10 dollars more than what he charged them. It’s a win win for everyone!

I am so, so proud of my brother. Not only did he do all of this without the help (or knowledge, for that matter) of our parents, but he actually brought home the cold hard cash. He learned how to leverage his social networks. He learned how to leverage his investments. He made money all on his own.

That, and he is a damn good model.

WHAT DO I DO NOW?

You’re so lucky to have an awesome little brother (even if he does use you as a target and doesn’t bathe). My little brothers never do anything interesting. :P

Things like this are cool, though – they give me hope for the future generations.

Okay, Chanel. SERIOUSLY. You have the cutest family ever. Also, I’m pretty sure Denz is the most stylish 13 year old I have ever met.

This is awesome. I agree with Merissa. I think my boss Ja-Nae Duane (http://www.Ja-Nae.net) would love to feature your bro through Wild Women Entrepreneurs or through her own blog. Do you think he would be up for that?
