History repeats itself
I cooked a fabulous vegetarian lasagna the other night. The family loved it and I was thrilled. Still giddy from the success of my latest experimental dish, I was idly cleaning the kitchen when my mother walks in and drops the scariest. comment. ever.
“You know, lasagna was always my signature dish.”
“Oh my god, DON’T SAY THAT.”
#1 most terrifying thing about getting older?
WHEN YOU REALIZE YOU’RE TURNING INTO YOUR MOTHER.

I know what you mean. I act like my mother sometimes and it even surprises me more than ever because now we’re starting to have the same taste. Eeeek.
I would love to try you veg lasagna someday though :)
November 22nd, 2007 at 12:54 amOh no. I really hope that never happens to me. To turn into my mother would be a horrifying experience. I think I’d consider a personality transplant… :P
Reply: Just you wait! It’s in your genes… and the fact that you’ve lived with her all your life (I assume?) doesn’t help either! *scares Amber* ;)
November 22nd, 2007 at 1:08 amI am so much like my mother, it’s as if I’m here. It frightens me not that I’m like her, because I love my mother and she’s such an angel, but because she’s also so docile and passive, and I’m like is this is what marriage is going to do to me?
I can’t cook like her though.
November 22nd, 2007 at 10:34 amI keep finding myself using phrases that my mother often does, or trying to make my friends more organised because my mother does it to me all the time. Scariest thing? I’m only 16!
November 22nd, 2007 at 12:05 pmI think my mom is pretty amazing, yet I wouldn’t want to be like her. It hasn’t been happening to me yet, but I’m afraid it will one day…
November 22nd, 2007 at 3:49 pmWhen my Dad said, “Wow, you’re a better cook than your Mom. But don’t tell her I told you that…” Coming from my Dad, that means a lot because he’s a bit of a foodie.
My Mom has a reputation for being a fantastic cook (she had a food catering business in her younger days)… and she always likes to borrow that old saying and say, “The way to your father’s heart was through his stomach.”
