In order to make sure each month in 2010 is noteworthy and more fabulous than the one before it, at the end of each month I’m going to be posting the highlights of that month as a way of creating pressure on me to make things happen. Here’s what went down in January:
Snowball Classic
First up, Snowball classic – probably the biggest, most prestigious ballroom competition in the lower mainland. This year we hosted the 2010 Word Latin Cup, which brought top level dancers from all over the world to compete against each other for the title spots. It was pretty amazing. I brought my camera with me on Saturday night to get some photos, and they actually turned out pretty well, all things considered!

You can see more photos here.
Driving lessons
Dear Internet, I FINALLY TOOK MY FIRST DRIVING LESSON!! After—literally—years of talking about it, I finally drove on ACTUAL STREETS next to ACTUAL CARS (and did not crash into any trees this time). Are you proud of me? Of course you are. I’m not going to be that loser who is 25 and still doesn’t know how to drive! (Not that there is anything wrong with being 25 and not knowing how to drive, of course…)
Operation: Drive – Step one, COMPLETE.
P.S. – I successfully reversed, made a u-turn, parked and parallel parked on my second day of driving. 2010, I AM KICKING YOUR ASS.
Joined a choir
Halo not included! Not very many people know this (unless you happen to live on my street, in which case, hi! I’m that nut who skips around in the rain at 2am singing showtunes) but I’ve picked up a secret love over the last couple months: singing. So when I found out our choir was accepting new singers, I was the first person at the choir director’s office to sign up. Let me tell you, dear Internet – It is so much fun.
You know what’s also fun? Publicly embracing your S.S.B. as part of your reinvention.
Other things, in list form:
- Minicomp with the UBC Dance Club.
- Being assigned to wear my skyscraping heels everywhere and “really try to strut in them” (teacher’s words) so I can learn to keep my LEGS! STRAIGHT! in the latin dances.
- Day one of Operation: Straight Legs; shopping for home renovation supplies at Home Depot in 4 inch mockodile peeptoe pumps. Talk about fitting in with your surrounding!
- Being less socially retarded: going out more & getting to know my acquaintances better.
- Developing a Saturday night grocery shopping at Whole Foods trend. I live life on the edge!
- When it rains men instead of cats and dogs.
- Laying down the law (and not backpeddling on it after a couple days).
One month down, eleven to go!

Do you go to the WholeFoods in Vancouver (on the north side)? Me and my sister and brother where up there for a ski trip for the last 2 weeks (well, 2 weeks a week ago), and we went to that WholeFoods everyday- it’s great!

Lol, I can just imagine you wearing those heels in Home Depot! And men instead of cats and dogs? I think we need more details about this ;)
