Sometimes
November 1st, 2007I’ve come to realize that in order to really succeed in life, you need to step out of your comfort zone.
It’s not always easy - in fact, nine out of ten times it’s downright hard. Sometimes it means talking in front of a crowd. Sometimes it means handing your brochure to the person sitting next to you on the plane, someone you’re so sure won’t be interested. Sometimes it means raising your hand and asking tough questions nobody else has the guts to voice. Sometimes it means stepping up to the plate and calling the shots, silently praying to God you’ve made the right choice. Sometimes it means taking the road less traveled, even if the path is darker and obscured by the fog.
Sometimes you just have to do it, and sometimes you’ll be pleasantly surprised. Sometimes it’s not so bad. Sometimes it is. But sometimes, you just need to feel the fear and do it anyways.

Here from the Randomizer. Good post. That is so true, and I have heard it a lot in the last little while. I have lived it a little in the last little while. Fear is so paralysing, but sometimes it is the fear of success rather than the fear of failure.
November 1st, 2007 at 11:58 pmGreat post and so, so very true.
November 2nd, 2007 at 12:20 amIt’s a horrid fact that I realised a year or so ago, and something I am still in denial of! I think only when you push yourself and come out of your comfort zone do you realise exactly what you’re capable of, and what type of person you truly are.
November 2nd, 2007 at 1:08 amI came to realize this at some point in the seventh grade. I had always been a very bubbly kid, I did ballet for 7 years, so I was quite into performing. Nothing could phase me. In my early teen years, though, I became afflicted by stage fright. I hated it. I couldn’t do any of the things I loved. So, I had to force myself to get over it, and I did, and it was hard at first, but now I’m back performing with even more ease than I did as a child. It’s a great feeling to know you took active measures to overcome something.
November 2nd, 2007 at 7:02 amThis so applies to all. I mean we have to take risks if we really want to get what we want, even if it means we don’t like it in the process..hoping that it will be all worth it in the end.
November 2nd, 2007 at 8:26 amI’ve really been trying to step out of my comfort zone, too. The biggest challenge for me is not caring what other people think, but I’ve gotten a lot better :)
November 2nd, 2007 at 11:20 amYeah… Stepping out of the zone is hard. But, definitely necessary for me considering how small mine is. I still haven’t got used to the increased heart rate, shortness of breath, and temporary brain freeze though lol
November 2nd, 2007 at 11:53 amI like stepping out of the zone, because I embraced making an idiot of myself a long time ago, therefore if people laugh they laugh and if not then I have done something to making it further in life.
November 2nd, 2007 at 12:21 pmI absolutely agree. A lot of what holds people back is fear. However, I vehemently believe that unless stepping out of your comfort zone is going to kill you, it’s worth a shot. After all, we’ve been dealing with, and learning from, new situations since birth. It’s simply something we must do to live.
Reply: Exactly. Ever heard of the acronym for fear? False Evidence Appearing Real!
November 2nd, 2007 at 12:59 pm“I’ve come to realize…” - does that mean you just had “a critical incident” that made you realize?
Reply: Good question! No critical incident really.. I’ve always known that I’ve needed to step out of my comfort zone to advance forward in my career, but it was only after I really tried it several times in a row that I realized that, well, it’s not as hard as I thought it would be!
November 2nd, 2007 at 1:59 pmThis is a lovely and inspirational post. :) By the way, hope you don’t mind me saying, but could your layout be any cuter? I love the colours and the little fold in the bottom corner.
Reply: Aw thanks!
November 2nd, 2007 at 2:39 pmYou are so damn right, that you scared me. Reading gave me a huge push onto doing something that I’m scared of doing. Reading this like three more times is probably going to make me do it. Then I’ll blame you. Heh.
Reply: Good for you! You’ll never know your full potential until you try. :)
November 2nd, 2007 at 4:53 pmI feel like I was just in a locker room hearing a football pep talk, or at one of those cheesy conferences they used to take the Beta Club members to in high school. :P
