One man’s trash…

… Is another photographer’s treasure.

A couple weeks ago, I met Marissa for breakfast at the Naam and a little photoshoot. These pictures are from the Commercial drive area of Vancouver. It’s definitely an interesting part of the city; full of culture, art, and organic foods… It’s also a bit of a hippie/drug area, depending on what part you’re in.

Like most neighborhoods in large cities, some parts are nice, and other parts, not so much. Guess which parts we took pictures of?

You can see the rest of the photos here.

I am too familiar with the second picture. My neighbors hang their clothes in the front of their yard.

And ROFL @ the painted-on “stop” sign. Which one do they follow?

Reply: One of our neighbor’s basement tenants used to do that, and it drove my parents crazy. They’re not fond of people hanging clothing over our (mutual) fence, understandably. :P

Those are gorgeous. The colours really pop.

I agree, pictures of not-very-nice things are often better than pictures of nice things.

Reply: Thanks. :) And yeah, they’re often more fun to take too! We ran into some interesting people on our photo journey.

You got a photo of the dumpster diver!

    I love them all!

Reply: I did, I did! I wish I had gotten a picture of him diving IN the dumpster, though.
Now I want to see your photos! :D

Wow, those are very nice pictures. It’s surprising how the subjects are not even that good looking until they are (well) captured by a camera. It really makes me want to go out and take pretty pictures of not so pretty things.

Reply: Thanks, Lene. :) That’s one of the things I love about photography.. You have a chance to take ordinary things most people wouldn’t look at twice and give them a chance to stand out.

Saw your website via lifeasrose a while ago. Enjoyed the pictures.

Ever notice how graffiti, more often than not, tends to be cool?

Reply: Thanks for stopping by… I’m glad you enjoyed the pictures. :)
And yes, I love graffiti! It’s like the common people’s artwork (even just in words), readily available for anyone to see.

Chanel, these pictures are awesome. I love the painted stop sign one and also the car with the Christmas lights on it.
    ps: love the new layout.

The Naam is wonderful isn’t it?

I love the chair amongst overgrowth shot, it looks like a great place to sit down with a book.
