Don’t read this. Just don’t. Are you reading this? Why are you reading this? Don’t read this.

Please, just don’t read this. Don’t read this. Don’t read it. No seriously, don’t.

You don’t care. What’s the point? Don’t. Don’t read this.

Don’t read this. Really.

I was watching the Ellen show yesterday morning when she played this video for the first time on national television, and HOLY MOTHER OF TRIPLE FROSTED CUPCAKES. After the third “don’t vote”, I swear to god my left eye twitched and my brain briefly contemplated watching Sarah Palin’s interview with Katie Couric again. Without stopping. You know, for therapy.

I know these celebrities are trying to be clever by playing up the whole reverse psychology thing, but let me be the first to say that it’s a complete and epic FAIL attempt. Is this video supposed to make me vote? Because seriously, CONGRATULATIONS. I want to vote less now than ever before. And I think the blame lies somewhere between the third and fiftieth “don’t vote”, but that’s just a guess.

Ironically enough, the only thing that makes this video worth posting here is Jonah Hill’s part in the ad—and that’s saying something, because I’ve found him to be exceedingly irritating and completely unfunny in every single movie he’s been in. Superbad? More like, SUPER BAD.

But wait, there’s more!

And you thought it couldn’t get any worse!! =)

Words can’t even begin to explain what I think of this video, but if I had to choose a couple randomly selected ones, “I HAVE OFFICIALLY LOST ALL RESPECT FOR JESSICA ALBA” would be at the top of the list. Really, Jessica?

I love how well the makers of these ads have appealed them to what they believe is their target voting audience: Stupid, star-struck Americans who can only be compelled to vote by watching four minutes of people being sarcastic about a serious issue.

Like, oh my god! If Jessica Alba and <3 <3 <3 LEONARDO DI CAPRIO <3 <3 <3 are going to vote, I should like, totally vote too! The muzzler is so hideous and it totally wouldn't like go with my outfit, and like, I just bought this new lip color from Revlon and nobody would like be able to see it through my muzzler, so I guess I should like, vote for someone so I won't have to wear it!

Someone should have told them it’s a good thing some people don’t vote, because if everyone voted, Americans might end up with a gun-wielding, big mac eating Barbie in office.

Just saying.

((( Listen to me read this post )))

WHAT DO I DO NOW?

I love your accent. And I love your valley-girl impersonation.

I found the ad a bit funny, but only for the first 20 seconds then it was like “m’kay. Enough.”

I don’t know, personally I’m all for promoting the idea of putting your vote to good use. If celebrities want to be involved in endorsing it, why not? Sometimes it takes seeing an ad like that on TV for the youngest generation of voters to think, “You know, maybe I should find out more about this election”. If their parents aren’t political and don’t vote (or just aren’t interested in educating their kids), and their friends don’t vote, how else is the average young voter supposed to learn that it’s important? I think it’s awesome that so much emphasis is being put on the importance of voting.

Obviously the first video, the one that was played on Ellen, is an extended version of the actual ad that will run on TV. The whole “don’t vote, really, don’t vote” thing was a liiiiittle long and tedious in that extended version, I admit, but I like the whole idea of the commercial in general, especially since half way through they start talking about why you should vote and where you should go to register.

Unfortunately the average citizen has so much on their mind already with careers, kids, relationships, etc., that they NEED information literally plastered in front of their face for them to absorb it and remember to educate themselves on the issues and the parties and to vote. Can you really blame them? It’s like the signs at gas pumps that ask you if you’ve checked your oil lately. I’ll be one of the first in line to vote, but I really do need that sign reminding me to check my oil if I’m really going to do it. Greg, on the other hand, checks his oil regularly without any prompting … lol. Just goes to show that everyone is different and not everyone will seek out political information on their own, if it’s not readily available and in their face.

Anyway, that’s just my take on it!
Also, Hayden Panettiere and Jessica Alba in the same frame? ORGASM.
